How to Care for Your Pashmina: A Complete Guide

How to Care for Your Pashmina: A Complete Guide

1. Why Proper Care Matters

Authentic pashmina is incredibly soft and fine—made from the delicate undercoat of Himalayan Changra goats. With a fiber diameter of just 14–19 microns, it requires gentle handling to maintain its luxurious feel and natural beauty for years.

2. Washing: Handle With Care

  • Avoid the machine: Never wash your pashmina in a washing machine or dryer.

  • Hand wash only: Use cold or lukewarm water with a small amount of mild, wool-safe detergent (baby shampoo also works well).

  • No twisting or wringing: Gently squeeze out water without twisting. Pat dry with a towel to remove excess moisture.

3. Drying: Always Air Dry
Lay your pashmina flat on a clean towel, away from direct sunlight or heat. Hanging it while wet can cause stretching.

4. Ironing: Low & Slow
If ironing is needed, use the lowest heat setting (wool or silk mode). Place a cloth or handkerchief between the iron and the pashmina. Never steam or iron it wet.

5. Storing: Breathable & Protected
Store your pashmina in a breathable cotton bag or wrap it in tissue paper. Avoid plastic, which can trap moisture and cause mold or fabric damage. Add natural moth repellents like lavender sachets or cedar blocks.

6. Travel Tips
Your pashmina makes a perfect travel companion—just fold it neatly and tuck it into your handbag. If wrinkled, simply hang it in the bathroom while you shower and let the steam release the creases.
