Sustainability

🧵 1. Artisan Support

Sustaining tradition by empowering the hands that craft it.

At Lumusae, we don’t just sell shawls — we support the people and culture behind them.

We partner directly with skilled artisans in the Upper Mustang region of Nepal, ensuring:

  • Fair wages above local standards
  • Safe, dignified working environments
  • Opportunities for women and younger generations to continue the weaving tradition

By investing in long-term relationships, not cheap outsourcing, we help preserve a centuries-old art that’s at risk of disappearing. Every purchase directly supports the artisans who made it — and helps keep their craft alive.

🐐 2. Ethical Sourcing

Compassion, transparency, and tradition — woven into every thread.

We source our pashmina exclusively from Changra goats raised at high altitudes in the Himalayas. These animals are never sheared — instead, their undercoat is gently hand-combed each spring, in harmony with the natural cycle.

Our commitment to ethical sourcing includes:

  • No mass farming or industrial processing
  • No synthetic blending
  • Full traceability from goat to garment

We work only with certified suppliers and local cooperatives who share our values. By keeping the supply chain close, we ensure that every shawl upholds the ethical standards we believe in.
